The two opposites of a life well lived

Perhaps the primary challenge of every person’s life.

Firstly, to accept today, fully.

Secondly, to aim for a better tomorrow, without holding back.

The first is supported by ancient wisdom, from East and West, over five thousand years of human civilisation.

The second is the product of human nature, a striving for survival and prosperity that is innate to the species, and which we can never fully get rid of without losing something vital to the human spirit.

They are opposites — it is a difficult thing to fully accept today while aiming for a better tomorrow.

But if we can hold these two opposites in our hearts and minds, we will never lose the power of today or the progress that tomorrow promises.

And we will, in the end, enjoy an existence that amounts to a life well lived.
